Welcome to the B1 German Language Programme, designed for learners who have a basic understanding of German and are looking to develop more advanced communication skills. This intermediate course is ideal for students who can understand the main points when clear, standard language is used on familiar topics like work, school, and leisure activities.

The B1 level will help you expand your ability to interact confidently in various situations, whether traveling in a German-speaking country, discussing personal interests, or expressing opinions. You will learn to report on experiences, describe plans, and explain your thoughts in greater detail. By the end of this course, you’ll be able to engage in more meaningful and coherent conversations on a wide range of everyday topics and handle most communication challenges with ease.


Course Outline

Module 1: Strengthening Basic Communication Skills

  • Review of A2-level grammar and vocabulary
  • Introduction to more complex sentence structures
  • Focus on communication in routine and familiar contexts
  • Developing fluency in personal introductions and discussing familiar topics

Module 2: Work, School, and Leisure

  • Describing your job, studies, and hobbies in greater detail
  • Discussing professional responsibilities, tasks, and goals
  • Talking about your free time activities, interests, and plans for the future
  • Expanding vocabulary related to work, education, and leisure activities

Module 3: Travel and Everyday Situations

  • Understanding and dealing with situations encountered while traveling (e.g., directions, transportation, hotel stays)
  • Role-playing typical travel scenarios, such as booking tickets or asking for recommendations
  • Understanding signs, instructions, and public information in German-speaking countries
  • Discussing your experiences while traveling

Module 4: Expressing Opinions and Explaining Ideas

  • Justifying your opinions, beliefs, and actions
  • Giving explanations about past events, future plans, and goals
  • Talking about your hopes, dreams, and ambitions
  • Making simple arguments to explain your views on various subjects

Module 5: Describing Experiences and Events

  • Reporting on personal experiences, events, and stories in the past
  • Describing situations clearly and coherently, including emotions and reactions
  • Talking about personal achievements and setbacks
  • Learning how to narrate and discuss future plans

Module 6: Advanced Grammar and Sentence Structure

  • Introduction to the past perfect tense and conditional forms
  • Expanding sentence structures with subordinate clauses (e.g., because, if, when)
  • Expressing hypothetical situations and wishes
  • Using modal verbs to talk about possibilities and obligations

Module 7: Listening and Speaking Practice

  • Engaging in conversations on topics of personal interest
  • Understanding conversations on familiar topics and responding appropriately
  • Participating in group discussions, debates, and presentations
  • Practicing fluency through interactive listening exercises and role plays

Expected Learning Outcomes

By the end of this course, learners will be able to:
